I actually wrote this as a response to an article that was written in Better Networker. I have had so many people respond to me personally about it, that I decided to post it here, as well as on my Blog. The question posed was simply, I am looking for an mlm company…..

Well, you can imagine the response that drew, and of course the responses were focused on individual businesses. But I am not sure that was the purpose of the question. I decided to answer with more of a generic platform offering Food for Thought. I think we all need to do an assessment as if we are choosing the company we are in for the first time.

Well, first off you had better be passionate about what you do. If not, it becomes just another business. And I don’t care what anyone says it is in the end about the money.. It is about creating a way for you to operate your life on your own terms. The way our system works, no matter the country, you have to make money to take care of your foundation or base, to free you up to be your most dynamic and creative self.

So if if you have the passion part down and it produces an income you agree with, you are headed in the right direction. Next step, integrity and alignment. Is this group integrous, what is their history, all companies have history no matter how new. Look at the people who created it and their background. What does the leadership in the company look like? Is it based on true success or are they false gods? Ask questions of people in the company as well as those that have left. Understand that people with negative comments may have an ax to grind which has to do with their inability to create a successful business. Get a response from several parties not just one. Every company leaves clues along their path.

How viable is their product line(does it have a very broad appeal, and will it appeal to a non network marketer, & is it set for them to do that simply…). If you are dealing with an actual product for resale, how big is the spread between your cost and the retail price, could you make money just off the sale of the product, and is the spread big enough that you can control special pricing events as well, & offer specials to your continuing users. Something I call an investment in your business- Loyal Customer Rewards!

I personally, because I have done both, prefer a product that is more service oriented, that does not require you to collect vast amounts of their product that you need to create space for. As opposed to an auto ship, there is a monthly service fee, and of course the headache of dealing with lost product is non existent, along with all of the other multiple warehouse issues. Most important question, Is there a strong need in the marketplace for the product or service? Remember the old adage, Find a Need & Fill It!

Make sure before you make your final decision , look at several different important issues: Does the person I am speaking with about this opportunity have experience, good political presence in the company and will they have the ability to represent your voice and business well inside? What does their business look like, and is it well run? What is the training like, is there support, does your upline or group in the company offer you training in skills you may not currently possess? Wanna be able to learn some online skills & need someone to help you, or vise versa? What is the culture within the company? Very simply, is their camaraderie with a healthy dose of competitive spirit, or is it mano y mano, and a lack of sharing information.

What does the financial status of the company look like? What is their payout history, have they been on time, every time? The comp plan could look like the greatest one in the world, but does it offer the company stability as well as pay it’s distributors well. Is it realistic or is it reliant on new monies to pay out bonuses w/o reserves to survive the ups & downs of fickle or weak markets? And, what do the people involved in the company have to say about their experience? Bottom line, are they ecstatic about being there, and walk with pride in representation?

And also, a word to the wise, never ever fall in love with the company or the product. You are building a business that represents your name and your integrity, and your reputation. Can you create a solid business that you can bank on for years to come, if You decide to stay on that path.

But remember you will continue to grow and evolve and need to ask yourself the above questions on a regularly scheduled basis to make sure you and your company are still on track.

Understand you are getting ready to build a business and put in a great deal of sweat equity and time. People have the tendency to, because some of the entry levels are so low, not take what they are venturing into seriously. I never go for things that are lower in entry, as I prefer to be with people that understand that you have to invest in your business to make money. That dollar amount can be different things to different people depending on their circumstances. I am sure there are many people that can offer you their opinion about that entry level issue. But it also has to match the market you are after. Where and who is your market and what is your personal influence? People build stronger businesses with people that either match them or their ability to communicate with a variety of audiences.

Multi Level Marketing or Network Marketing is big business, big money, and extremely rewarding. Treat it and you with the thoughtful insightful respect it deserves……

Best of success,

I wanted to share this with you. I had an opportunity to participate in a program that one of my mentors, Mike Dillard, suggested to me, called Alpha Influence. A very unusual, and somewhat mystical program unlike anything I have experienced before on Leadership. But Leadership through personal mindset alteration, in the way you approach, focus on things, and influence outcomes with others. Here is an opportunity to review something related to this yourself. And it’s free…..

I thought I would share it with you today. Enjoy. I have put it into use again today…it is nice to fall back on, and re integrate the concepts again.

The CHOICE — will you make the right one?

Listen and observe…

Many people are telling stories of corporations forcing them and their co-workers to work like slaves. Instead of a whip, they use fear of job loss. Many, NOT ALL, but MANY corporations have come to the realization that a terrified workforce is a motivated workforce.

This means that these corporations, again NOT ALL of them, can exploit their employees and force them to do the workload of two, three, or five people. They then give a motivational speech:

“We all have to make sacrifices for the company. This might mean you have to work a little later. Or maybe you need to come in on the weekends. Or maybe you need to take some of your work home with you.”

“We have to do what is best for the company.”

“We do care about you, and if you feel that these requirements are a bit too much, we will accept your resignation. After all, there are countless professionals out there with just as much work experience as you, and they are desperately seeking a job.”

“You’re one of the lucky ones. But we’re going to need you to work a bit harder, longer, and without any bonuses or pay raises. But you get to keep your job so that makes it fair, right?”

Many corporations are working their employees to death. If an employee can’t sustain the insane workload (which NO ONE can for an extended period of time), the corporation says, “Too bad, we have to let you go.”

Again, NOT ALL CORPORATIONS have adopted this “employee-enslavement” policy, but an alarming number have, and many more are beginning to; listen and observe, be aware and notice trends and patterns around you.

Maybe things will “magically” get better and corporations will stop focusing entirely on their bottom lines and start focusing on the well-being of their employees, and jobs will become blissful…

Or…it will get worse.

Based on what you are seeing and have heard, what do you think will happen?

If you want to take control over your life, if you want Financial Independence, then NOW is the time to act.

FINANCIAL INDEPENDENCE DEMYSTIFIED is a manifesto created for people who want to be paid what they are worth and never answer to a boss again. If you are serous about Financial Independence then act on this!

CLICK THIS LINK to learn more about Financial Independence — Do it RIGHT NOW before they start charging for this incredible information (I can’t believe they are actually giving this away)!

Can you imagine what your life will be like once you are financially independent?

You fire your boss, sleep in, live life on your terms, and gain wealth from working on what you are passionate about! Financial Independence is the way to go!

I remember like it was yesterday!..Funny how some things stick with you forever and throw you back in time. So much so that you can even remember the sensation of cold fingers and toes that wouldn’t warm up and the feel of the air, and that it made your cheeks really red and hot…. The year was 1963 and I was 13 years old.

I was living in rural Louisiana, South of New Orleans, along the Mississippi River, in Cajun Country. My older sister and I were spending rare time together, as she was home from Boarding School for the holiday. My Mom had been ill most of my life, in fact she had a lot of issues and was crippled and blind and had been since she had given birth to me. She was a fighter, optimistic, and lived her life as if there were no boundaries, physical or spiritual. She was in short, my hero, my mentor, and my compass.

I lived a great deal of my young life in the waiting rooms of various hospitals several times a year and in fact it became the norm. So my family was not prepared when things took a turn for the worse that day and my sister and I found ourselves staring up into the eyes of adults who couldn’t put into words what we could clearly see in their faces. My Mom, my hero was gone. It was Thanksgiving Day.

As you can imagine that experience stuck with me and this day of Thanksgiving became an angry bitter day for me for quite some time. The memory of it became softer and softer over time. I began to welcome the day instead of resenting it and was grateful that I had a special holiday and a reminder to celebrate my Mom. It was in that spirit that I was sharing this great day with my son, Miles, then 13 .

As is often the case with your children, they use the experience of their parents as a way to explore their own feelings about things. Mom, he said, “Didn’t you lose your Mom when you were my age on Thanksgiving Day?”. His question brought back all of the feelings flooding in. I remember the tears welling up for a brief moment, I hugged him and simply said, ” Yes, honey, and I now use this great day of thanks to remember and honor her. But I will tell you, I am grateful that both of your parents are here with you to celebrate this day. I was your exact age when I lost her. I am so happy that you won’t go through that.” Four days later my husband, his Dad, was killed in a fatal car crash.

Those ill fated words came back to me on the 30th of November, 2000. I remember wanting to go back in time four days and pull those ill fated words into my mouth. But of course I couldn’t and there was a lot of anger and frustration for awhile. But the following year I sat my children down and we decided together to make this a day of joy, thankfulness, remembrance, and a time to be grateful for one another. Instead of being angry or lost we made the choice to live this day in happiness and still do to this very day. It has become a day of Remembrance and Memorial for those special people that have left such an indelible mark on our lives.

I would like to leave with these thoughts on this very special day that has left such an impact on how I live my life. And indeed perhaps you will know me a little better and understand why I choose to live my life with such gusto(and on my terms). I understand that there are no guarantees in life and that indeed we have to live our lives as if it is our last earthly moment. It only takes a second and the direction of your life can be forever altered. Don’t live your life in judgment and anger, grab it with everything you’ve got. If you are talking or thinking about creating the life of your dreams or your families, GET OUT THERE AND DO IT!

Because this day, this moment may very well be all you have left. Don’t let it go to waste. And as one of my mentors, Mike Dooley says: “Thoughts Become Things, Make Sure You Choose The Good Ones!”

My special thoughts for you today are very simple. Assume nothing, don’t do things to yourself or others that you will regret, live your life in honor, push yourself to be the absolute best, and do not ever compromise your dreams. Just Do It………..

Happy Thanksgiving, 2010

How often have you heard people say you are the sum total of the people you hang with?

I certainly in this case hope that is true. Many of these people consider them selves to be experts at what they do and classify themselves as “Serial Entrepreneurs”. I had a conversation with them and asked many questions. In asking how they run their business, in general, and on a daily basis, the answers were all very similar. The three top responsibilities they all felt they employed on a daily basis are:

1.) Get Specialized Knowledge

2.) Create Systems & Follow Them

3.) Take Action !!!

Interesting that all of their answers were so similar, as they were asked separately from the others! Let’s take each item one at a time.

Getting specialized knowledge was at the top of the list for all of them.

The purpose and the intent for all of them was to become a specialist at what they do. All believe that surrounding themselves with information and other people they respect and revere in their particular industry is paramount. Then studying the information & material, until it feels like their own and using it to help their business grow. Here is a good question to ask yourself about your skill in your business? Do you know your business from the inside out? How well do you know the details of your business? Are you familiar with your comp plan, your products, the nuts and bolts of the distribution process in your company. Be prepared to answer the most basic questions. I was with a marketer one day, talking to a potential marketer and they did not even know the cost of the basic test in our business. Do not let this happen to you. Also attend every training in your own line and your company. I attend every webinar, teleseminar, and group program I can get my hands on. I always hear something in a new way.

Creating systems and being being organized was paramount to each of them.

How do you approach your business each day? Do you have a consistent style of doing things that has an order that is so familiar that if you leave something out, you immediately know you are off and the alarm bell sounds? Set up programs and be consistent in their practice. I usually start my day the nite before with a complete list of things to be accomplished in a very precise order. I consistently do a minimum of 50 things each day for my business. I start with my daily contacts to new people interested in the business by phoning, sending out my personal e-mails, and responding to people who have sent inquiries for further information by forwarding my 5 question “What is it you’re Looking for in a Networking Business( that’s how I identify if they are true candidates or not)? I have also started refreshing my Facebook, and Twitter accounts. so they are fresh and new. If you get in the habit of doing these things and setting up systems, you will know that you are actively involved in your business. Don’t forget to get out there everyday and see people face to face, as well!

If you are not taking consistent action, this is enough to keep you from being successful all by it’s self!

The learning and growing is great but remember to stay in action. Integrate the new things you learn and don’t totally abandon the programs or things that are working well for you. I also believe that people get stuck, don’t go forward or backward because they have a fear of failure. Failure is just a part of success and should be a natural part of the process and the platform from which you learn to ultimately create the success you deserve. But high quality action is the key. Have a plan with a starting point, daily check in’s for yourself, and change the action if you are not getting the response you are looking for. Always keep learning, applying, and assessing.

In closing I would like to to say, never forget why you are an entrepreneur.

You are the one who is wiling to take the risks so that you can control and create the outcome and life that you want. Being willing to do what ever it takes to change not only your life but the life of others you meet.

You will be remembered for the value you bring to the world. You will be remembered by the opportunities you created, the lives you changed. It is not an easy road but it is definitely worth it!

Every Can Be Saturday If…

Stevi Sullivan
